Cantoria (Almería), 5th July, 2021.- Cosentino, the Spanish global leader in the production and distribution of innovative and sustainable surfaces for the world of architecture and design, has this morning selected the winners of the 15th edition of the Cosentino Design Challenge (CDC).

The deliberation session took place online and brought together professors Luis Miguel Alonso, from Escuela de Arte y Superior de Diseño of Pamplona (Spain), Raúl Torres, from Escuela de Arte y Diseño of Seville (Spain), Jorge Roa, from Escuela Técnica Superior de Arquitectura of Seville (Spain), Angélica Fernández, from the University of Zaragoza (Spain) and Rocío Ruiz, from Escola d´Art i Superior de Disseny d´Alacant (Spain). Santiago Alfonso, Vice President of Communication and Corporate Reputation of the Cosentino Group and President of the CDC competition, and Spanish interior designer Soledad Ordóñez completed the panel of renowned architecture and design professionals.

309 proposals submitted

This year’s competition received a total of 309 projects, 196 in the Architecture category and 113 in Design, submitted by European, American and Asian students.

According to Santiago Alfonso, “As President of this challenge that we have been running every year for students for the past fifteen years, I am very proud that the number of projects submitted has exceeded 300 for several editions, especially in this difficult year that we are going through. It is also a great pleasure to see new schools joining the competition, as Heriot-Watt University Dubai did a few weeks ago”.

“Just as schools and universities have had to adapt to online lessons and/or tutorials, the CDC has also made a great effort to deliver online presentations to reach the whole world, especially the students of the 32 partner academic institutions. We are very happy with the feedback we have received”, says Adelina Salinas, architect and coordinator of the CDC.

“Being a competition created for students, I was surprised by the level of expertise in the different programmes used when submitting the proposals. There is a clear contrast between the conceptual projects and those that are applicable to everyday life. My sincere congratulations for all the effort and work done”, says renowned Spanish interior designer Soledad Ordóñez, who has participated in several editions of Casa Decor Madrid and the Marbella Design Fair.
